The inter-war period is a time to work on future doctrine with relevance to the technology. We also need to work on Revolutions in Military Affairs (RMA) that will change how we fight or new technology that gives us the edge. In WWII the RMAs were amphibious landings by the marines, aircraft carriers for the navy, and P-51s for the army.

SSG Robert Mark Odom - The reasons why Germany had the advantage at the onset of WWII is because they conducted a large AAR process of WWI. They decided armor and mechanized forces can overwhelm the enemy quickly. Our doctrine of tanks was very flawed through ought WWII, but Patton made it work.
