Hmmm. Well, I'll give it this much... it's an interesting development. One thing we have to bear in mind here is scale. I'm presuming (given the timeline) that the 30th Armored BCT was already positioned in Iraq... and things like this are likely why they were there (so, an existing contingency). We're also still talking under 1,000 personnel; so an impressive force... but not ungainly. This is also on the far-opposite end of Syria; not quite the same strategic and political situation as what was going on up on the Turkish border. Sounds more like a chess move than an end run.
