The history of the Church of LDS is fascinating. In many ways they reflect America as it once was. They raise children who are respectful and industrious. Their "welfare" system is a model worth studying. It is only in their religious ideology that I am put off. Some may argue that they brought persecution upon themselves, but not me. I do know that Joseph Smith was tarred and feathered in my home county in Ohio in the 1830's. He then moved to Kirtland, Ohio only to be run out of Ohio to Illinois where he was killed. I believe you are right. As their economic and political situation grew, the older settlers felt threatened.
