CMSgt (Join to see) Our ancestors were builders and pioneers and mostly fearless. We are regulators, auditors, bureaucrats, adjudicators, censors, critics, plaintiffs, defendants, social-media junkies, and thin-skinned scolds. A distant generation created; we mostly delay, idle, and gripe.
There it is in a nutshell,Mark.

I've been a follower of Dr. Hansen ever since I first read his brilliant book, The Western Way of War, about 25 years ago. His columns make a lot of sense, too. With regard to his comments about California and how we are lesser people than our parents and grandparents, I think he is spot on. My parents and grandparents survived the Great Depression. My parents were part of the Greatest Generation that won WWII and then made things easier for us kids while imparting their hard-won wisdom. In our house, discipline and respect were all-important, and if us kids stepped over the line, we got it. Our forebears made mistakes and were not the most ethical people (by today's standards, anyway), but they got things done. Today's young adults and kids, not so much (except the ones who join the military). I think the loosening of the societal bands that bound us together as a united people will eventually result in the Balkanization of this country, or it will fall to the same fate that the Roman Empire did.
