I have fought the battle of the bulge all my life. My mother took me to Johns Hopkins where a doctor said something akin to your comment (except, of course, Doritos were available in those days). My mother protested that she had brought me because she didn't think I was eating "that much". So the doctor gave me a small book to record all that I ate. When we returned, he scanned the pages and informed my mother that I had another problem. I was lying. I couldn't eat that little and still be that fat. And thus I have lived my life fighting doctors who thought they knew everything even though medical school provides scant little training in nutrition. And I've listened to criticism such as your comment that I should exercise more by pushing away from the table. And here we learn that an eminent doctor who lectured us on proper eating was playing with a short data deck (much like the esteemed prophets of climate change doom). Wouldn't it be nice if we had some competent and honorable scientists answering to the ethics of science rather than worshiping at the altar of government research grants.
