The Gov't should get out of the marriage business. The Gov't should only be interested in civil partnerships for various contractual reasons. My marriage was consecrated in church with family, friends, and acquaintances as witness. The Gov't had no part of it.

Capt Gregory Prickett - The state had no involvement in my marriage rite. I got a license for practical legal expediency. Unfortunately, the Roman Catholic church has agreed to act as an agent of the state in the civil marriage bureaucracy.

I have no problem with unrestrictive civil marriages. If one wants to marry a tree or three other people, more power to them. But, don't use the Gov't to force me to accept it. Common services and goods should be offered to all good customers. Businesses should not be punished to refuse to perform an unique service or provide an unique good to an activity they disagree with. A company that makes large Christian crosses should equally be allowed to refuse service to one who wants to create a special cross for a KKK burning and allowed to refuse service to one who wants to create a special cross for a polygamists' wedding cake.
