So as someone who specializes in ancient DNA (PhD in molecular biology from one of the big “factories”). It’s important to note that we, as scientists, are most often not the ones making the claims about race/culture/ethnicity, as the OP clearly mentions. This is one of the rare cases where the media takes our results and accurately uses it to dismiss “purity” BS. Unfortunately, that is quite often not the case, as people love to misuse science to “justify” their truly horrendous agendas (I.e Netanyahu calming, falsely, an ancient DNA study proved that the Palestinian people have no rights to any land in the region).
