The Lehigh Valley was invaded by more than 20 military helicopters Thursday, all in support of the armed services' efforts to bring stability to Afghanistan.
The U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division Combat Aviation Brigade, stationed at Fort Drum, New York, flew Apache, Chinook and Black Hawk helicopters into Lehigh Valley International Airport for a refueling stopover.
The brigade is deploying to Afghanistan as part of a scheduled rotation of forces, to replace the Army's 1st Armored Division Combat Aviation Brigade.
Stopping over at the airport outside Allentown is part of the aircrafts' transfer to an East Coast port en route to South-Central Asia in support of Operation Freedom Sentinel, said 10th Mountain Division spokeswoman 1st Lt. Victoria Goldfedib.
