Interesting slice of history that admittedly I didn't know about.
It is still stunning to me how the Kuomintang collapsed so rapidly in the face of the Communist forces.

Many are surprised to learn about Russia's involvement in the Pacific Theater during WWII - often refereed to as August Storm. Russia was engaged in some large scale campaigns in the region and by the end of WWII controlled all of Manchuria. Their presence was a contributing factor in the Japan's defeat.
Russia was no stranger to the region there were previously there in the late 1800's.
