The Hybrid Benefits of the National Guard

SSgt (Join to see) Here's the rub. We essentially have two masters we serve. On one hand, we support the state in which we reside and are there when we're called. On the other hand, we are constantly being used by the active Army as an augmentation force. My DIV HQ has deployed twice in the last 6 years and we're going out the door again in the next few. Our OPTEMPO as a part time force has increased with no signs of slowing down. I spend about 10-12 hours a week, if not more, working on issues for my unit because the full time staff just cannot accomplish everything they need to in between drills. Our equipment needs lots of attention (especially on the MI side) and we're constantly being put on orders to get things squared away. I'm at the point where I just want to be put back on active duty because that's what it's like. My civilian employer has been awesome to say the least allowing me to give a little bit of focus during the day to help my unit out. At some point, we're going to burn the candle at both ends and something has to to give.

Not a bad article and very close to complete accuracy. I often read articles/posts about the National Guard (many even written by guard members) which are completely false or full of inaccuracies when referencing how we are utilized, and the differences between Title 10 and Title 32.
