I agree with the author that A2AD networks are not China/Russia operational COGs, and that they represent a shield of their true COGs. But I think he's wrong in his assertion that we're just beating our sword on that shield. We ARE trying to find ways around the shield, and ways to make the shield so porous that our forces can leak through, and ways to make the shield go away at the time and place of our choosing. I'm not sure the author is as informed as he needs to be...we're not pretending it will be a Desert Storm III, or that it will be easy. There are many sober strategic thinkers who recognize China's and Russia's strengths change the equation and add many new variables. Also, I don't see any definitive ideas from the author beyond vague platitudes.

It all seems to me to be misinformation. We won't know the actual strategy and tactics of either side until the shooting begins, if ever. Until then, it's all little more than mental masturbation...

We have to think about strategy and plans, because the work involved...the research, the familiarity with troops, land, strengths, weaknesses, COAs...the planning populates our minds and gives us resources when the plan goes to hell after the first shot is fired.

Col Joseph Lenertz - I'm sure we are doing just that. However, I would never expect an honest assessment to appear in any news forum. As operations officer in a strategic communications center, I well learned just how far from reality such stories are. Indeed, military and intelligence agencies use press releases for the same purpose as a magician uses misdirection.
