I suspect that every ideologue would claim to be Orwell's true disciple and that their opponents are the evil incarnation of Big Brother. Well, you're all welcome to him. Orwell was a dilettante of ideologies and you can find something for everybody in his writings. I prefer to stand on principle rather than cling to any intellectual hero. My principles are simple. I am a liberal. Orwell was a liberal when it suited him. I've always been a liberal. I prefer individual liberty above all else. I have no desire to rule over anyone any more than I wish to be ruled over by anyone or any government. I am liberal with my wealth as well as my time in helping the deserving poor and those afflicted by circumstances beyond their control. For all others, I offer the opportunity to engage in free market trade based on exchanges of goods and services based on mutual benefit using capital as a medium of exchange or barter when convenient. What would Orwell think of me? Not sure. Don't care. What would he think of those in the U.S. now courting socialism? Most likely that they're damned fools...
