We need good people across the ranks, enlisted to become E9, WO, and commissioned however when I talk to people about big military career decisions, I tell them about the time they plan to be retired from the military. Most people, your retirement pay goes much longer than your active duty time and this is where it pays to be commissioned. I had more fun as an enlisted soldier however I plan to be retired as an O-4 much longer than I was active. Something to consider.

When I retired I was making more than my boss who was O-5. Warrant not a bad career path.

The greatest reward as an officer was to develop culture and watch NCOs and soldiers grow professionally and personally. It is true about having many jobs. I was in tanks, finance, budget, worked with the Alabama NG, DTS, Northcom, OIC of Single Soldiers Day at Ft Hood.
