The imagination and the resolve are certainly there to jump onto the toboggan racing down hill.... but such faces a bigger challenge in a bureaucracy that is fixed on the last Revolution and trying to catch up when we totally missed it. In 2006 we were fixated on smart weapons as the future.... meanwhile... the very means of how people communicate was changing and it was not in any focus..... except all our adversaries. Nothing says failure better than the Arab Spring... and how many others learned so much from it and how social media had come into being... So how do you cut through the lays of a system specifically designed not to make it easy to have a revolution?

In a novel I read many years ago about terrorists hijacking a cruise ship "Black Sea", a US Navy destroyer searches in the littoral seas surrounding an island chain while, as the author wrote, "...the Pacific fleet was steaming deeper waters, launching fighters in search of a hi-tech version of WWII..." (or words to that effect). The phrase stuck with me as a metaphor for the failings of strategists to keep pace with the present let alone peer into the future

LTC Eric Udouj I do agree with most but I don't feel we are losing the battle on how our military works and achieves success but change is definitely desperately needed. Just my opinion
