Vietnam Veterans Can Get Free Commemorative Pin at Base Exchanges

The problem is the pin says "VIETNAM WAR VETERAN" but is being given to any veteran who served during the Vietnam Era, whether they were ever anywhere near Vietnam or not. They started doing this a couple years ago and when challenged they indicated that the pin is for ALL VIETNAM ERA VETERANS. If that is the case the pin should have said "VIETNAM ERA VETERAN" not "VIETNAM WAR VETERAN" as many of the pins handed out went to folks who were not in fact VIETNAM WAR VETERANS. I believe the AAFES screwed up royally with this pin. I have nothing against VIETNAM ERA VETERANS but most are not VIETNAM WAR VETERANS and the pin should be appropriate to their actual service.
