Air power and submarines ended the assumed superiority of the Battleship. Just as missile technology and submarines will render the carriers a losing strategy.

MCPO Roger Collins I would not dig the grave for Carriers just yet Roger. Not all conflicts require an ICBM. For example, using a hand grenade to kill a fly..... when a fly swatter will do the job just fine

CWO3 Dennis M. For a long time, I could see the strategic importance of the carrier, as long as wars remain conventional. Know, with all the ship killer technology, I wonder about their survivability in a major war/conflict. If it can be seen or heard it can be destroyed, until better defensive weapons are developed.

MCPO Roger Collins - Oh I agree, if we see a scenario of total Nuke warfare, it will be like the old novel "On the Beach" (author Nevil Shute) that I read in the late 50's early 60's. Being a Sub sailor, I assume you read that book?

A very interesting account of the ships resurrected after pearl Harbor. Greatly enjoyed the read. This is a story I have never heard.
