When I was the operations officer at a strategic communications center in Hawaii, I had to spend many nights on duty, especially when the diplomats were out and about stirring up trouble for US. The men on duty often had Dr. Rev. Carl McIntire on the radio for distraction. We loved listening to him, especially when he was waging war with the IRS. One night he pleaded for a donation of $1 million. No, he didn't have time for us to send our pennies and dollars. Hang on to all your folding currency. The need was immediate and he needed that one parishioner who could satisfy his need with one glorious check. I lost my breath listening to him, but I had to return the following night to hear him praising the Lord for his savior, a wealthy landowner in Kansas who had heard his plea and the Lord moved him to write that check. Thus, I am left to wonder why God created me with a conscience to prevent me from becoming a tele- or radio-evangelist.
