I honestly don't think he realizes that his goal of shutting down the government as a method of demanding funding, or using a national emergency to gain funding, is unconstitutional. Congress controls the power of the purse. If you can't broker a deal, you can't get your funding. That's it. But he's going to keep us shut down, and keep making this demand. It's either going to result in a never-ending shutdown which makes us less safe and destroys lives, or it's going to result in a Constitutional crisis and a precedent that he and his party are not going to like very much in the coming years. There is no good outcome here. The man needs to give it up.

Waning support from his own party is gonna be his downfall. Plus I like how the big mouth Lindsey Graham who has been insisting he has the ear of Trump just got embarrassed.

LCDR (Join to see) Mitch McConnell I think is equally to blame. There is little doubt in my mind that if Mitch wanted to they could easily override any veto by the POTUS.

I like this BS that the Gov should open up and stop the closure for 3 weeks and let the REP and DEM debate this issue of the budget. !!!! Did you know the Congress was required to pass the budget so it could be implemented on 1 OCT which is the start of the Federal Fiscal Year!?!?!?!??!?!? What idiot thinks three more weeks and everything could be solved? They had had since OCT 2017 to work this budget. 15 months to work on a 12 month budget...and they are currently not in Wash DC to do their job. I never see much talk about that.

Capt Gregory Prickett - The Joint Travel Regulations is followed by people in the Exec branch but it is not in the constitution.

Capt Gregory Prickett - I have presented the small portion of the US budget for Dept of Energy Security. It was $81m. I had to go through a review by OMB, and then it was presented by OMB by the first TUE of FEB as the President's budget. Congress is supposed to use it to complete by 1 Oct. We have a Fiscal Year. I honestly do not know who made that. Could be an E.O. long ago, could and should have been a Congressional Law signed by POTUS. I know we were doing this when I was involved 2006-08. Has there been a change? I know a lot of people worked to make the FEB date.

I have long argued that loyalty to party over loyalty to constituents is bad for the Republic. When I see the Senate or the House of Representatives vote party lines it automatically gets closer scrutiny from me.
I refuse to believe that an Southern Urban Republican has more in common with me, a Republican leaning, rural Libertarian, politically than a Southern Rural Democrat, across the board.

Maj John Bell Why you hating on me cause my wife is expected to get paid after the furlough is lifted? Don’t twist my words. There’s a difference between blocking bills cause you truly believe it will hurt your constituents and blocking bills to protect one’s position in society out of political greed (ie McConnell).
So again to answer your question: “So what is stopping them from debating now?” Nothing but arrogance on both sides. What’s stopping them from reopening the government and continue the debate on border security? Trump and McConnell. So blame them for the unfortunate consequences that fallen on your wife and her fellow workers.
“Then it is simple, a majority of the Senators, regardless of party can remove the Majority Leader...” Well first the party that has the majority that selected McConnell has to motion in their party to replace him then it can come to a floor vote. Dems can’t make that motion. So no it’s not that simple.
So as a Republic with democratically elected officials I do hope constituents hold their representative accountable for the actions that impact all Americans and not just themselves or oneself.

MAJ James Woods - I'm not hating on you. But " My wife works under the Dept. of Interior and is affected. Many of our friends are effected. So yeah some of us would have rather watch Congress keep debating while the government kept functioning." Sounds an awful lot like a call that your wife and Federal workers are being held "hostage." Well a lot of folks are being held hostage and being held hostage by both sides. Frankly I'm a little tired of all the fuss over the Federal workers. By no means do they have the crappy end of the stick. When it is all over and done with, they will get every dime they were supposed to get. Civilian contractors and the economy that is dependent on them paying their bills will not be made whole. Frankly I don't think we're at rock bottom yet, we have a long way to go. And I don't think this crap is going to stop until you see incumbents on both side dropping like flies. So I hope they keep screwing us ALL (you & me) over until the electorate cleans house.
I refuse to hold one party or the other more or less responsible than the other.
Why must the President and the Republicans make the first move? Why must the Speaker and the Democrats make the first move. There is a power struggle. We can debate which side is right and which side is wrong until we are blue in the face. This is the product of a divided nation so we (including my wife and her fellow employees) EXACTLY what we deserve. Someone is going to have to suffer. I don't have sympathy for anyone, including me and my wife. Sometimes you have to take one for the team.
But we are divided by trivialities. I don't have to like someone to strike a bargain. I have to trust them, or know that the price of screwing me over is so draconian that they dare not.
It is time to stop focusing on personalities, and to focus on the needs of the nation. Were I the President, the wall would not be my deal breaker, but that doesn't mean we don't need one. It is a symbolic part of a complex problem that requires a complex and undoubtedly painful solution. Some will suffer more than others. I'd focus on making it so painful for someone to knowingly employ an illegal alien, or to facilitate their entry and stay in the US that there was no opportunity for them here.

Maj John Bell Again you’re not acknowledging my whole statement where I said keep the debate going with the government functioning; meaning not shutdown. Three bills by House Dems to reopen the government yet Trump and McConnell are the ones keeping the current parts of government shutdown. So tell me again how anyone is saying the GOP should make the first move when the Dems have been making moves. The last GOP move was the 100-0 bill before Xmas that Trump and Paul Ryan rejected. So stop wasting my time with your circular argument. I’ve been very clear. Enjoy the football games.

MAJ James Woods - Because the shutdown is how both sides are trying to keep the focus on the issue. They both believe that without the shut down, the American electorate will focus on the next bright shiny object. In that I believe they are both correct. They both believe that their hardline supporters and the "so far, silent middle" comprise a majority. Obviously one, possibly both are wrong.
Discussion is not in the least dependent on fully funded government. What first moves have the Democrats made. Have they put forward any legislation hat tightens border security of ANY kind? Have they put forward ANY legislation that offers a permanent fix to the immigration problem? The 100-0 legislation was a stop gap, that would leave us in exactly the same place we are right now. It answers the mail on keeping the government funded but does not address the border.
Have you ever noticed that when you and I disagree, you inevitably move to snide comments? My argument is no more circular than yours, in my opinion you value a fully funded government than a reasonably permanent solution to border security and immigration reform. I value the opposite. That doesn't mean your a bad person, worthy of caustic comments; it just means we have different priorities.
Haven't watched televised football since 1968.
