A classic? More evidence that I'm old. Thanks. That's the weapon I trained on it in 1966. Although it didn't have the full auto selector switch, it went full auto in night firing class. 20 rounds and all I could do was hang on for dear life to keep it pointed down range. You are (and there's nothing wrong with that) Our VFW post has a few M-1s used for ceremonial purposes. I always wonder at the weight of them when I pick one up. Was the M-14 that heavy? Well, I looked it up to answer my own question and the M-14 was just about a quarter pound lighter
