Lawrence Beesley was a teacher, journalist and Titanic survivor. After the collision, he boarded lifeboat 13, which was eventually rescued by the Carpathia.

Lawrence Beesley was born December 31, 1877 in Wirksworth, England. A widower, in 1912 he left his young son to sail to America for holiday aboard the Titanic. After the collision, Beesley boarded lifeboat 13, which was eventually rescued by the Carpathia. He wrote a successful memoir, The Loss of the SS Titanic, about his experience. Lawrence Beesley died on February 14, 1967 at age 89.

Teacher, journalist, Titanic survivor. Born December 31, 1877 in Wirksworth, Derbyshire, England. The son of a bank manager, Beesley was educated at Derby School and Caius College, Cambridge. He taught grammar school before becoming a science professor at Dulwich College.

In 1912, Beesley, a widower, left his young son to sail to America on holiday aboard the Titanic. Once there, he planned to visit his brother in Toronto. After the collision, Beesley boarded lifeboat 13, which was eventually rescued by the Carpathia. He wrote a successful memoir, The Loss of the SS Titanic, about his experience. Lawrence Beesley died on February 14, 1967 at age 89.
