Thank you PVT Mark Brown for making us aware of the unsurprising news that Kevin Drum from Mother Jones wants to ban all semiautomatic firearms.
When I was a cadet at USMA [1976 to 1980] I subscribed to Soldier of Fortune and Mother Jones as well as High Times. I subscribed to Mother Jones for a year or so to get insight on their motivation and perspective. :-)
The article forgot to mention Timothy McVeigh and the massive truck bomb exploding outside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on April 19, 1995.
"“I would ban all semiautomatics,” wrote Drum in a recent article. “That would leave the gun owners of America with three types of weapons they could legally own: single-action revolvers, shotguns, bolt-action/pump-action rifles.”
“That’s plenty for self-defense and for hunting, but pretty slim pickings for mass murder. Problem solved.”
Problem solved… Right? Wrong!
The FBI generally defines mass murder as “a number of murders (four or more) occurring during the same incident, with no distinctive time period between the murders.”
The sad truth of the matter is that for a determined and resourceful killer committing mass murder is easy. One certainly doesn’t need a semiautomatic firearm. Heck, one doesn’t need a firearm at all.
About a year ago, a suspected terrorist killed 8 people and wounded at least a dozen others on a crowded bicycle path near the World Trade Center in New York City. His weapon of choice? A rented pickup truck.
And if Drum believes that this style of attack has limits in terms of its scale and effectiveness, he better think again. Nice, France, July of 2016. A Tunisian man runs a 19-ton cargo truck into throngs of revelers celebrating Bastille Day on the Promenade des Anglais. When the truck, badly damaged after its carnage-inducing ride, finally grinds to a halt 86 people would lose their lives and 434 more would be wounded.:"

LTC Stephen F. Drum seems to have forgotten about double action revolvers and lever action rifles. he also doesn't seem to know that some shotguns are semi-automatic.

did you see the length of the article? It's like 2 paragraphs and makes absolutely no arguments for banning certain firearms

SSG William Jones - I knew there was a reason I never looked at their articles. I love casserole, but not that kind
