Although speaking in figures of High death tolls that would have been impossible to be accurate small island or not. It was however a way of expressing the very high price in lives that was paid to take that island. That loss of life of our Marines was so terrible but demonstrated despite the Japanese resistance to an larger superior force they weren't anchored in reality and fighting to their own deaths for what was already going to be a certain victory for the Marines. What an example of the insanity of the brainwashed orientation of the Japanese Troops that was faced there on Tarawa and other places they were battled and could expect to be fought. My salute to these brave men who endured this Hell, paid the price and did overpower the Japanese anyway despite that insane resistance.
