The US has vital interests in observing and enforcing the Rule of Law including International Law. I don't believe that China will risk war in its attempts to rewrite that law but it appears more than willing to risk an "incident". Are we? Some past Presidents may have lacked the stomach for it, but this President doesn't seem any too shy, does he? I have to wonder why the Chinese are still testing this...

CPT Jack Durnish, this is the typical saber-rattling the Chinese do. They have far too many investments in the US to ever go to a military war with us. A limited economic one is a better course, but then again, you don't exactly want to destroy your number one consumer.

The Chinese feel if they enforce their non-rights under International maritime Law enough, and Nations back down, they will be able to get a defacto Territorial Waters for their man-made reef and military base. Thus they will enhance their claim to the entirety of the South China Sea.

Hmm, the Philippine Navy has 3 frigates, 10 corvettes, 35 patrol boats. Do they patrol the area they claim, that China has claimed, or do they expect others to do it for them?
