I live in Georgia and can attest to the fact that nobody’s vote is being suppressed. One of the plethora of responsibilities of a Secretary of State is to purge voter rolls. These can be due to inactivity, death, conviction of certain felonies or a host of other reasons. It irks me that PBS, a taxpayer supported organization spews this left wing nonsense.

The history of voter suppression in the south is horrible, as you say. But Mr Knight's scant evidence in the article (53,000 voter registrations disapproved due to not matching social security or DMV records...and most of the 53,000 were filed by African Americans) does not support his conclusion. There is a reason the law requires this information to match (so that we know the person voting IS who he or she claims they are). Mr Knight's background as a student of African-American History is the lens through which he views everything. What would be the reasonable alternative to the current law? That people could fill in any name and/or social security number or driver's license number as long as it is SIMILAR to some real person's name or social or DL number?

Col Joseph Lenertz absolutely. Sir, this is why there's a huge push for voters to provide their ID's when voting. Just this morning, I chatted with a local polling assistant as I was getting ready to vote and asked why they do not ask for ID. Her response is they didn't want to appear as they were oppressing voters. I asked her how is this oppression when you're asking for someone to verify their identity so they can vote. She told me that most people do not have access to get an ID and I told her that's not oppression. Bottom line is, we should want to verify who is who when it comes to voting so that someone else doesn't vote in my place.

To the nay sayers here, I would suggest one take a deeper look into the situation.
