"The first slaves in America were the Irish." I would say the first slaves were American Indians, enslaved by other Indians, then by European explorers.

I have issues when you call an indentured servant a slave, (someone who signed up for forced labor for a period of years, or someone who was sentence through a court for forced relocation and labor for a period of time) African Slaves didn't sign up for it and were bound for life as were any children they had. Very different from what was forced upon the Irish, even if they were found guilty in a kangaroo court still not a slave.
