He mentions also Civil Air Patrol aircraft taking High school AFROTC Cadets up for pilot training, which they are doing. I've seen that very sort of activity at Hanscom AFB, MA. CAP of course also has programs for their own Cadets with both training programs as well as flying encampments to take the Cadets through solo in CAP aircraft. In both cases this motivates these young people towards Air Force or Military service. One CAP Squadron I was in We had several Cadets that earned their private pilot license and others who had at least did their solo flight. All the Cadets had orientation Flights in CAP aircraft. One of our former Cadets went on the the Air Force Academy and graduated and became an Air Force Pilot. His last assignment at Andrews AFB, MD was as the pilot on Air Force 2. He now is a pilot for Delta Airlines and retired from USAF as a Lt. Colonel.

And they've been doing this for years. I wasn't in CAP but got an orientation flight in 1963.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - I was a former Cadet in CAP and so was My brother, then along with My Father all three of us each spent over 40 years in CAP. I remained in CAP during my entire 22 years in an Air Force uniform as well.
