OK, here's the skinny. I was the senior construction agent on Adak when it was built. There was NIS (now called NCIS) interest in one of the construction contractors utilizing concrete the Government paid for to be used on another contract. It fizzled due to "Alaska Ted Stevens Rules". We were tasked to inspect the construction which was pretty straight forward. The Anchorage times called me up and through the satellite lag got the basics down. That's where I relearned a critical lesson. When a reporter asks if there is anything you'd like to add, just say no. I had a brain fart and said "A bunch of us would really rather had a Burger King." So this piss ant Navy LT at the time wound up in way too many rags across the nation in their "Quote of the Day" section. My Admiral in San Bruno laughed his ass off on that one, so I was safe.

Lt’s .. I hate when word correct tries to make people look like they’re stupid and change words on them..
And at last half a Mili-second too.

[~168853:PO1 William "Chip" Nagel : I was stationed at Langley AFB in the early 80’s and I’d go to Norfolk and stop in at the Cafeteria by the exchange there when some of us would go there.. They had a great burger for a time; 6 oz with a couple piece of smoke Black Forest ham, jarlsberg Swiss cheese, mushrooms n onions and a choice of potato..(fries, tater tots, fresh fried chips).. depending what time we got there, if we did the exchange first or eat first..
Some of us were at a base function and talking about Norfolk and some officer remarked that it’s not our base or exchange... and a bunch of bla-bla to go with it.. about how much is there is configured for those assigned to that command.. and we were denying somebody availability to a product.. This same person believed that on contingencies we stay out of their clubs .. that it’s for them... and of course only just so much beer, just so much food ..
I learned not question it and play the game.. There was a V.F.W. And a Legion .. My card worked either one.. I did not mention it when I got back to base.. I guess I did not have to.. word got to him already.
I went in and showed my card and the bar guy pointed to a sign saying they couldn’t reciprocate in this contingency due to a request from the Judge advocate and vetted by a Federal judge for that district .. the legion had the same sign .andthe D.A.V. .. and he didn’t want us using base facilities either.. The Post and Brigade Cmdrs at the post Over-rose him and said we were welcome In their clubs.. So, do we follow ours or our host ? We decided in our own best interest to follow ours and we cooks made up a batch of “5”.. and had a party .. what we made was naturally fermented.with a little help. technically food rules come into play .. it was gone so fast and not a lick of evidence left and the container washed out.. it didn’t have a chance to get dangerous in if’s Fermentation process.. At least we had some happy Airmen !
