I have seen many soldiers improve their lot in society. Financially, educationally, and maturity.

Not exactly sure how this article was news-worthy. It’s quite nearly like the Duffleblog writing an exposé about how, for generations, the United States Army has secretly been filling its ranks with recent high school graduates.

The thesis is the military is trying to attract working class kids. This has been going on for centuries.

I may be mistaken but don't most militaries, at least in a historical sense, come from the working class of people. Usually the elite are represented in leadership but the bulk of the manpower has almost always been working class, maybe with the exception of the Greeks.
