Regardless... it was a significant achievement and the planting of the flag was very symbolic in many ways. This constant attack and need to rewrite American history is ugly and disturbing.

Here's where they screwed up. Gosling came out and stated they left it out because it was a "human accomplishment," ignoring what predicated the US's objective to be the first country to put a man on the moon. This rationalization only made things worse. Seriously, was it really worth it to exclude this very significant part of the historical event? All they've done is made the movie seem political (whether that was their intention or not), and at this point, Gosling's statement has essentially helped me make the decision of whether I want to spend my time or money to watch it. At this point, I really have no interest in it. Rather than say we chose not to add the scene for whatever reason, he should have said "no, we didn't get that scene in there, but I don't think you'll be disappointed with what we managed to include."
