Glad she was able to defend herself, I don't know why more women don't carry.

Danged fat fingers.
I understand what you are saying, so my response would be to train them. The OR nurses I worked with, who got called out in the middle of the night and have to drive a fair distance over country roads all carried. They were all hunters and trained regularly with their firearms. They would be a formidable opponent.

SFC Harry H. - Training had BETTER go hand and hand with a Concealed Carry permit otherwise that gun toting person is both a danger to others and him or herself. Pepper spray can be used against you and so can tasers, so considering the fact that you are in close quarter combat mode when you may need these items I like a handgun. Sometimes the threat of bodily harm from a handgun's presence in the hands of a confident person who knows how to use it is a deterrent in and of itself.

SFC Jim Ruether - You're thinking in a males perspective. Women are 100 times more likely to be killed by a man with their own firearm than to use that firearm in self defense. It's fact! That's why we as LE encourage women that plan on carrying a firearm with a permit or for home defense to get familiar with a gun. Shoot that gun regularly and clean it too. Anything that gets them more involved and comfortable with their gun. As always take classes about firearms.

Those who are a little less timid about firearms, we suggest a less abrasive but effective approach and that's pepper spray, tazer, or self defense classes. Yes I get it, nothing is more effective then a firearm in that situation. But understand that when caught in these moments, psychologically women can't bare the lasting effects of a gun and they end up running or dropping the gun. And in many cases failure to know how to function the weapon properly. Women arn't aren't engineered like men. In more cases then not, we find that rarely women commit suicide with a gun either.

Yes, it is a shame someone lost their life, but it also saved a life. Hard to get a permit in Seattle, which is not very gun friendly. I think most honest bikers today do carry a gun. Just don't go to Waco Texas. They like to assassinate bikers first, then arrest the survivors, and then never report on what really happened.
