Why bring back a 60 year old design that is less capable harder to maintain and would nee redesign for new engines . That is like bringing back the slide-rule it was once the best option but that time is long past

No real need to redesign the engine as the engines we had in WWII were pretty bad ass. You could place a turboprop on it as they are more efficient and JP8 is more readily reliable and Pratt and Whitney already makes an engine with little mods that would fit. This plane would be far cheaper to use and maintain than anything we currently have in the fleet.

The Bronco already gas a Turnoprop, an engine that bad not been produced in decades as by modern standards a maintenence heavy pig with low performance. a new engine and all the structural supports and systems for that engine would need to be re-engineered. It would be far better that what we currently use but fat inferior and more costlyvthatbthe two aircraft the USAF is considering. Both are proven airframes, designed for easy main acne and low cost operation from the start. Not to mention being a couple of genrati OK newer in systems and aerodynamics.

The mantra from the Air Force has been the F-35 can do all the missions. Then wala! A propeller driven plane comes into existence.
