This director is not a fan of the movie: https://variety.com/2018/film/news/sorry-to-bother-you-director-boots-riley-blackkklansman-tweet-spike-lee [login to see] /
"Though “BlacKkKlansman” is based on a true story, Riley said he is skeptical of it and claims it’s full of “fabricated story notes” about its protagonists, Ron Stallworth (John David Washington), a black detective who infiltrates a local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan with his white partner (Adam Driver)."
"“Stallworth wrote a memoir to put himself in a different light, but let’s look at what else we know,” Riley wrote. “There was no bombing that Stallworth or the police thwarted. This was not in Stallworth’s memoir. That was made up for the movie to make the police seem like heroes.”
The essay states that, in actuality, Stallworth was a member of the FBI’s Counter Intelligence Program (Cointelpro), whose “objectives were to destroy radical organizations, especially black radical organizations.”"
Cointelpro did have that objective actually. I had to look up some stuff about how the FBI has changed since 9/11 for a class I'm in and read the FBI history and that was mentioned on how they would try to infiltrate what they felt were "radical" organizations to stop them - mostly civil rights leaders and groups. Some of the things they did were illegal.

If I wanted to hear about a black insider who infiltrated a ultra right wing bro-NAZI hate group, I’d read Omarosa’s book, but no thanks
