Cincinnati police: 11-year-old girl stealing from Kroger market shocked with Taser

I shoplifted once at my local grocery store when I was a kid because my older brother and his friends did it and got away with it. First I stole a couple pieces of candy, got away with it. I tried to steal a pack of pens...a worker caught me in one of those big mirrors they have up front. I got banned from the store for 30 days. THEN I saw my dad walking up when he got home that day...yeah I knew I was in trouble. I got grounded on top of it. He asked me why didn't I just come ask him for the money and I just said I didn't know and was crying. I never did that again because I don't like to see my dad disappointed.

My one older brother tried to steal from Shopko - he got caught and got arrested. The cop called my dad and said "Do you want to get him here?" My dad said "Can you take him to the police station and show him everything?" The cop laughed and said "Yeah." My dad came to get him and my brother was white, crying. He was 17. He never stole again after that.

I'm pretty sure there are better ways to deal with kids who try to steal than a Taser. She wasn't a threat. She didn't have a weapon. It's pretty ridiculous. Lots of people try to steal or steal as a kid because of a dare or to look cool or whatever. It's not something that should be this serious unless they hurt someone or steal some serious stuff.
