What a great story! This is what I needed to read today. Joyeaux Noel is a great movie about that "unauthorized" cease fire.

No one appreciates peace more than those who served and continue to serve. Merry Christmas, peace on earth.

I've read that even the Hindus from India honored the truce upon seeing its similarities with their own practices.

Here is a link to the story that I am sure inspired this soccer match.

A quote that I saw from the person who posted this on Facebook was "Humanity at its finest when humanity was at its worst."

1SG Steven Stankovich Great information. Other reports said a group made their own make-shift soccer balls to play around, but as the article said it was scattered across the line. Some soldiers ended up getting shot trying to spread the truce in their area. I read in another article about how a Brit got a clean shave from a former German barber. Something like this will likely not never happen again. Both England and Germany were Christian countries so they shared a common thread that opened a small window of opportunity for peace.
