I remember reading an article back in the day of why the Army didn’t choose the MARPAT uniform. Their excuse for creating their own pattern instead of using MARPAT was that the USMC uniform contained black in its color spectrum. According to the article, the color black does not occur naturally in nature. In other words it’s a man made color. So the Army has to create its own pattern that did not contain black.
I know it sounds crazy, but that’s what I read.

Thank you, for your recollection. I think it is crazy that we have to get rid of the desert tan Boot and go for a darker Hue coyote brown boots. Someone's making money on this one!

SMSgt Thor Merich What I have read is that the USMC has something like or has a trade mark on MARPAT and wouldn't let the Army use it.

We will wear the last war's uniform until we figure out we are walking TRPs in the current war.
