So apparently the IRST radar is better than the F-35’s EOTS, according to this article. I’m seeing a pattern between Russia’s Su-57 and the Chengdu J-20. The aircraft have been lauded as having ‘stealth capabilities and a better radar system than the F-35.’ And if the reports of cyber hackers stealing information about the F-22 and F-35 is true, then our stealth fighters are going to be in trouble. There is a setback to being stealthy, and that drawback is the lack of armament. The F-22 can only carry 8 missiles stored in internal bays to keep the radar crossection relatively undetected. The only gun the F-22 has is a 1× 20 mm (0.787 in) M61A2 Vulcan 6-barrel rotary cannon in right wing root with 480 rounds. Compare that to the F-35s 1 × General Dynamics 25 mm (0.984 in) GAU-22/A 4-barrel rotary cannon, internally mounted with 180 rounds and 6 × external pylons on wings with a capacity of 15,000 lb and two internal bays with a capacity of up to 5,700 lb. Boeing company has been toting the F-15X as a misleading carrier for the stealth fighters, which means the F-22 and F-35 are relatively unarmed should they be intercepted by enemy combatants. Not only has the raptor been spotted, it is outgunned and can be caught up to by a non-stealthy jet. This is only a situation I can imagine happening if the Su-57 could be put into mass production and if the Russian Air Force used said tactic. Now switch roles, putting the F-15X in the intercept role and the Su-57 as the hunted. Now I might be off about F-22 tactics and whatnot, but if the F-15X variant were to be paired with stealth fighters such as the F-22 and the F-35, said confrontation could become a reality.
