the key point to the whole thing, other than the bravery of the resistance, was the Soviet Army holding in place until the Germans put down the revolt.

i guess it saved them from having to kill the Polish underground themselves. after the Katyn Forest Massacre and this is there any doubt as to why the Poles hate the Russians?

Along the same lines, "uncle Joe" demanded that Arnhem be left alone as well. Had the USA been more confident in its war-tech, (ie; wondering if the atom bomb would work or not), they would not have needed Russia's contribution in the East and then Joe would have been told (at Churchill's prodding) by FDR that "they can liberate Warsaw or Patton can liberate Warsaw."

The notes from FDR and Churchill are still to this day, classified.
