I recommend looking at this site before donating to a charity. Look at % for Program Expenses to see how efficient the charity is. 100% means all the revenue is passed down to the recipients. As an example, the WWP has a Program Expenses of 74%. This means for every dollar raised, 74 cents go to recipients.

I use Charity navigator but they only cover charities that are large. Small or charities starting out are not covered. I gave to the Kyle Pease foundation this year. The Kyle Pease foundation helps physically challenged people participate in sports. I have had observed their efforts in many venues. They are small at this point and not rated.
