It might have been a good idea to make Russia an ally. Do we really want Russia as an enemy? Think if RU and USA were on the same side...against China. Not sure I like it going alone.

Nixon was also a WW2 veteran, an anti-Communist and had the reputation of being a true Cold War hawk. Trump dodged draft during Vietnam War, has business ties with both Russia and China, and has reputation of being a con artist who left others to hold bag.

It's not a bad idea but Russia has never shown much interest in truly being an ally. It's better to have neutral relations than to be enemies.
That said, no nation on Earth puts another countries interests ahead of their own.

They will seek assistance only in a last case scenario. Plus, China doesn't want a ground war in Asia any more than anyone else does. It's possible, but right now China and Russia are much more likely to engage in electronic warfare (computers) than anything else.
