How does one find out if they're eligible? I've got nothing but stories to go with about relations to pioneers, founders, etc.

The firest thing is to be able to look at what your family history says about the Patriot. If that person is indeed a patriot of the Revolution, the next step is to start connecting you to him. That is where the genealogy starts. You need to prove you are the son of your parents, a Birth cert will do that, then you need to prove each generation back to your Patriot. But not always. You might find your patriot is owned by several families, and they may already be in the DAR or SAR, so you need to refocus how you might connect to them. Tell me what you know about your Patriot. What unit, what battles, what regiment, where born or at least where is he from? Tell me everything you know about your patriot, and I will do some digging for you to see if in fact he is a patriot. Tell me everything even if it is only hand me down info. You would be surprised how accurate the info can be. Much info is also available at cemeteries too. I will wait until you tell me what you know. I have access to many Revwar records, so let us see who we ARE LOOKING FOR.

I am eligible, but never had any inclination to join. Interesting information, however.

SAR/DAR and a buck fifty gets you coffee somewhere, I'm sure. Other than an interesting factoid in a family's history, I'm not sure what it gets one in this day and age.
