I have said this before it is the troops they are getting. The point is we have been at this high tension and demand deployment thing for 16 years (GWOT its not over). The big problem is the way NSW/NSO are brining these guy in now. They use to most of them have at least two or more years in the fleet, before they crossed into BUD/S then become a SEAL. This enabled commands to control the type of troop that was allowed to even put in a package for screening to get in the pipeline. This means most of them would have to be above average performers and that includes discipline. The way things worked before they had rates, put in a Dive package i.e. BUD/s had to have above 4.0 evales and pass all PT test nd be recommended for retention, this put most of them at paygrade of E-5 already on way of being a senior leader. Back in the 80's and 90's if you ran into a team most of them were in their late 20's and 30's, not like today early 20's (I know as I have supported and been around them down range) this can make a difference in how they see themselves and Military all together as in NSW and SOF would be the only thing they have been exposed too. Keep in mind this all changed when the Navy Created the SO rate over 10 years ago and it takes over 10 years to change communities and that's what NSW is. So to end brining 18-20 year old's straight into a high preforming operational job, with nothing else to go by can create the I am better then everyone else and nothing can touch me, so I can do what I want, attitude.
I will add this under the old program SEAL's with rates the average age of a SEAL chief was in earlier to mid 30's, under the new SO rating the average Chief is 25, that ia a big deal when dealing with senior leaders and all they have done is operate.

SCPO Henry Malone - So if you are grown from Boot Camp and the only thing you know is NSW and not real leadership form other places, the small things, how are you going to grow.
The problem is all the old timer the SEAL qualified warfare guys none SO's that had rates and kept the young guys in line are leaving and retiring. So now all you have is the SO's that know nothing but NSW, and think that is the real fleet, that's where leadership will fail and discipline problems come out, as all eyes are on you.
