Fish rescued as river dries up in heatwave

I read that pre-American colonization, the streams and rivers were teaming with fish. The abundance was so pronounced that it was marveled upon in Europe. This condition changed with the cutting of forests and planting foreign plants which caused erosion to bodies of water.
