It's not just people in the U.S. illegally — ICE is nabbing lawful permanent residents too

ICE is doing what ICE is supposed to do. The example used in the article, Garcia for domestic abuse in 2001 with a prior record of violating a protective order in 1987, suggests to me that the system is working, albeit slower that it should. ICE is not a judge nor is ICE a jury. ICE does what the law calls for. The law also provides an avenue for Garcia to effectively appeal. As noted by his lawyer:
[begin quote]
Mackin said her client is eligible for Cancellation of Removal of Permanent Residents, which would allow him to stay in the U.S., because his offense was a misdemeanor and his sentence was less than one year.
"There's certain factors we have to litigate in court in front of the immigration judge now for him to keep his green card," Mackin said. "If we win that case and we are successful, he can file for naturalization right away."
[end quote]
I have no problem with what ICE is doing. The problem I have is that every POTUS and every Congress at least since Reagan has kicked the co-joined cans of immigration and illegal aliens down the road and on to the next POTUS or Congress. Trump and his administration appear hell bent on ending the can kicking … on these as well as a number of other issues.

WOW! Someone that actually read the article.
LTC (Join to see), and you are quite correct in that President Trump does not appear to be kicking that can down the road. For that I am glad.

“Garcia is in ICE custody pending a determination from an immigration judge with the Executive Office for Immigration Review on whether he has a lawful basis to remain in the U.S. Garcia’s bond hearing is set for Friday, a day his daughter is also planning a rally outside the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services building in downtown L.A.”
Also....”Among the various crimes that can make a non-citizen of the United States deportable are so-called aggravated felonies. Someone who is in the United States with a visa or a green card (lawful permanent residence), and who commits an aggravated felony, can be removed or deported.”
This has been the law for decades. Eight of Obama’s years it could have been modified. But, once elected, his priorities changed.

CW5 Jack Cardwell - How about them (legislative), the executive and judicial branches actually enforce the laws already on the books? Not enforcing the law and selective enforcement is what got us into the current dilemma with immigration and illegal aliens.
The repairing that needs to be done is the active and continuous enforcement of the law - that is not the job of Congress, that is the job of the executive and judicial branches of the government.
