Another simple date in history that illustrates American Imperialism for purpose of economic growth, expansion of trade routes, and expansion of our democracy. On the other hand, historians can always argue what could've happened had we treated the people of Hawaiian Islands as sovereign, open foreign relations, and assisted them in their development as an independent nation under US protection from imperialism from Asian countries. Enough with the hindsight, it's a vacation paradise with a great culture that is part of American culture.

GySgt John Olson - Actually it's important to acknowledge our errors, sins, and violations in order to learn from our mistakes and avoid repeating them. That's the purpose of history and re-evaluating it.

MAJ James Woods
GySgt John Olson - Ignorance to history is why we've repeated some of the same mistakes in Iraq and Afghanistan that we made in Vietnam and the Soviets made in the 80s. Even Patton had a tremendous grasp of the importance of history when it came to applying some of it to his own operational and strategic successes.

Yeah, I know, I've read that whole thing of late, seen numerous videos, about the whole tribal rights thing about that...obviously, it'd be totally illegal now, of course, the thing is, what are ya gonna do, unwrite a century and a half of history to correct it? You can't, it's just not possible, too much time has gone by, too much water under the bridge, too much history already recorded...I understand certainly on a purely intellectual level the reason for all that stuff of late, obviously not on an emotional level, certainly...I just don't quite know what to !ale of it...it was am overtly colonial episode, certainly, from an earlier sociologic era wherein and when such things were tolerated, I guess, beyond that, I really don't know quite what to say, honest....

True enough about the annexation although when it came to the question of statehood Hawaii very much wanted to be the 49th state which Alaska became in 1959. The same year Hawaii became the 50th State. We had lived there in the early 1950s when it was still the Territory of Hawaii and some of the 45 RPM records My parents still have the label was 49th State Recording company. (My Dad was stationed at Pearl Harbor NS while He was in the US Navy then and My Mom and I were with him, in 1971-74 I was stationed there My self in the USAF at Hickham AFB, HI)
