SGT David A. 'Cowboy' Groth I'm Still Pissy about them shutting down both My Ships USS California CGN-36 and USS Arkansas CGN-41.

It may not be entirely due to other energy sources. Remember when Fukushima happened and never stopped happening! Articles revealed that most of our nuclear plants were antiques by then, some built by the same contractors with the same problems as Fukushima. Of course we never know what is and is not factual these days without doing our own FOIA requests, and hoping the facts are not censored. But I'm guessing many truly are antiques and are a danger if not upgraded or replaced. If the "powers that be" are waiting for "safe" fusion technology to become functional and inexpensive as a replacement we may be in for a heap of trouble.
"BRADY: The reactor where the accident happened is still shut down. We're headed to the one next door that has generated electricity since 1974. The control room is like stepping back in time. There's green panels with analog meters, flashing lights and old-style levers.
DAVE MARCHESKIE: Everything is original. A couple of the screens are new. The only thing that has changed since the time it was built are the countertops."
