Unfortunately this is not unheard of. I was based at Camp Pendleton in '96 when an alleged gang member shot the Co & Xo of HMLA 775.

Actually the Chicago and L.A. gangs have been sanding people into the military to do this for a long long time. While it is sad to see it's not at all new.
