All services can boast of exceptional marksmen in their ranks. I have been told that the USMC has always stressed aimed fire versus fire superiority and theoretically this should create more quality marksmen. However, in a firefight it comes down to who will put themselves at risk to offensively engage enemy targets and who will not. The men and women who will do the former are rare, irrespective of the branch of service. One of the major differences between most line units and SMUs is all "shooters" in the latter will put themselves at risk to engage and destroy opposing combatants. They will not however, normally act in a foolhardy manner to achieve a short term gain.
