Pretty cool missile. Will definitely add some punch to surface engagements. Hopefully, it will be a little easier to mission plan than the Harpoon (granted I didn't have much experience with it just seemed overly difficult to me)....

I used to just sit around on the mid watch and do mission plans against radar contacts. There really is not much to the Harpoon but also means it is easier to defeat. I like the NSM.

LT Brad McInnis Very cool indeed, and you are not alone about the Harpoon being a bit cranky shall we say.

Harpoon for its day was a game changer. Unlike Exocet with it's 60lb warhead, Harpoon relied on actual explosive to kill the target, rather than waiting for the remnants of the missile to burn the target to death. Harpoon's combat debut was quite impressive. All launched birds (sub and air) performed as planned against top-rate Soviet gear in Libyan hands. Updates like SLAM have improved the weapon.

Sounds good. How many billions do you think it will end up costing?

LCDR (Join to see) Wow, that is quite a cruise missile! I have been retired from the Navy for just short of 30 years, and What I am seeing in the way of ships and armament never ceases to amaze me. I don't even recognize the bridges on these ships much less the the weapons systems! Oh to be young and be able to play again!
