The A-10s are heavy cavalry, the fighters are light cavalry.

Well said MAJ Ken Landgren . B Type bombers are nice but can not stay within eyesight of target like an A-10.
F-16, F-15, F-18 and any other fighter / bomber can not carry the weapon load while matching the fuel load / time on target to beat the A-10.
