Always controversial, he always led from the front, so I guess he earned that right to be outspoken. He remains one of the most decorated American soldiers of all time with 2 Distinguished Service Crosses, 10 Silver Stars, and 8 Purple Hearts.

I once e-mailed him when I was a college ROTC cadet. I was curious about his political position because he initially supported. but later opposed the 2003 invasion of Iraq. He actually took the time to personally respond to me. It shows a lot when a military legend takes the time to answer his fans' messages.
